Rob Shive

Professional Training and Credentialing

Rob holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from East Carolina University and a master’s degree in Counseling from Denver Seminary. He has been a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) since 1993. Rob has extensive training in marital therapy including being certified in Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP), Christian Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program (C-PREP) and the Prepare/Enrich Program. He is a member of American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) and the Michigan Business & Professional Association (MBPA).

Professional Experience

Rob Shive is the Owner and Executive Director of Oakland Hills Counseling, LLC, a position he assumed in September 2008. Previously, Rob served as the Executive Director of Christian Family Services from 2006-2008, and has been a professional counselor specializing in marital and premarital counseling since 1993. Rob also served as a youth pastor as well as a campus minister with Campus Crusade for Christ.

Personal Information

Rob is a native of Charlotte, NC, and has four children, one of whom is internationally adopted from China. Rob and his wife, Karen, also a professional counselor, conduct marriage conferences, premarital seminars, and marriage enrichment weekends. In his free time Rob enjoys road and mountain biking, fishing, camping, hiking, date nights, family time, and service projects. He also enjoys reading about theology, philosophy, the integration of psychology and theology, and orphan care. Rob’s passion for marriage and the family is born out of his own experience and work to build a healthy marriage, as well as the tremendous education he has received in helping hundreds of distressed couples find hope, work through difficult problems, and rebuild their relationships.
